The Official Fergus & Federico 2026 Playlist

Fergus (our Celtic Roots alter ego)
and Federico (our Latin Roots alter ego)
often get asked what songs we play,
so here's the sort of official 2026 playlist!

When we are busking to let Beauty Save the World, we grow our playlists in various ways. Some songs move us deeply. Others are just fun.

Bottom line: We play things that give us a little joy and hope and pray that it is contagious.

Here are the songs in the order we typically play them. Some of them have lyrics which are posted below.

__________________

  1. Little Light of Love - Eric Serra - This is the song we have playing during our set up. From one of our favorite movies "The Fifth Element". Lyrics below.
  2. Liathach - Jo Hamilton - A poignant, slow song of longing. Liathach is one of the oldest mountains on earth found in Scotland. Lyrics below. Here's an explanation of why we lead with this beautiful song.
  3. Work Song - Cannonball Adderly - A nice warm up jazz tune by one of our favorite saxophonists.
  4. Pick Up the Pieces - Candy Dulfer - We've loved this song since the first time we heard it and Candy has the best version we've ever encountered. So much joy!
  5. Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder - What's not to love about this joyful celebration of music. Thank you Stevie for being a gift to us all. Lyrics below.
  6. The Lonely Shepherd - Zamfir - We play this haunting pan flute melody from the Kill Bill soundtrack in the background as we switch from playing alto sax to the Aerophone wind synthesizer. We jam along with it sometimes with the rich pan flute voice time permitting.
  7. March from Oscar and Malvina - The Chieftains - This is a traditional Irish march that we lay down a simple drum loop for and play over it with tin whistle, fiddle and uilleann pipes consecutively. Definitely a favorite of farmer Fergus.
  8. Special Stage - Sonic Team - Remember the OG 16-bit Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis? There was a special stage you could go to and just collect rings in a crazy tunnel and this is the song from that. The joy of running as fast as you can is in this mix somehow. We lay down a bass loop and play a pretty cool sounding wind synth over it.
  9. Super Mario Brothers Theme - Boogie Heights - We've always wanted to learn and play this happy tune... so we did. We found a cool voice for it on the Aerophone that makes it even more fun.
  10. Kells Opening Theme - Iona - This haunting tune is full of mystery and wonder. Crafted by the Irish band Iona in 1992, their entire album highlights the amazing beauty of the Book of Kells, a 1200 year old illuminated manuscript of the gospels still preserved at Trinity College in Dublin. We were privileged to see it in person once. We made a video with this song with high resolution imagery of the details of some of the pages of the manuscript that you can watch here. Lyrics below.

  11. Aisling's Song - The Secret of Kells - A beautiful and haunting song a monk wrote about his cat 'Pangur Ban' is embedded in this enchanting and award winning animated film. Do yourself a favor and watch it sometime. We play it solo with the pan flute voice. Lyrics below.
  12. Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence - Liturgy of St. James 4th Century Hymn - When we heard Aly Aleigha's version of this we were captivated. It weaved itself neatly into place right after Pangur Ban and has stayed there as part of our pan flute set. Lyrics Below.
  13. Be Thou My Vision - Traditionally attributed to St. Patrick - Seems to go with the flow and fit nicely after the previous song in the pan flute set. Sometimes we belt out a verse or two with a bit of an Americanized Irish lilt. Lyrics below.
  14. Lord It Belongs Not to My Care - Richard Baxter - We fell in love with this Englishman's hymn a few years back. It seems to have more of an Irish lilt so Fergus insisted it come right after St. Patrick's tune in the pan flute set. We belt out a verse or two of this one at times as well. Lyrics below.
  15. The Pink Panther Theme - Henry Mancini - Lightening up the mood, we bust out the rather convincing Tenor Sax voice on our Aerophone (hey we can't carry around the entire sax family in our little wagon, right?) for this tune which we've loved from our childhood... yeah we're that old that we watched the original animated Pink Panther cartoons on Saturday mornings and loved them.
  16. Tequila - The Champs - A silly, fun drinking song that fits nicely into the tenor sax set.
  17. Yakety Sax - Boots Randolph - Most people know it as the Benny Hill theme, but this is the song we saw on Hee-Haw as a kid that inspired us to want to play the sax. Didn't actually learn to play it until age 60, but hey, who's counting years anyway?! See Boots play it like we saw it way back in the day here.
  18. Klayman Shuffle - Terry S. Taylor - From our most beloved video game ever, a point and click claymation adventure called 'The Neverhood'. This game has a cult following and our family was caught up in the fun of it from its first release in 1995. We made our own version of the song with the rich bass clarinet voice we found on the Aerophone.
  19. Rock N' Roll Dixie - Terry S. Taylor - Another silly and fun Neverhood tune. For this one we break out the most excellent bari sax voice on the Aerophone. Too much fun!!
  20. Let's Get Funky - Home Grown by Fergus and Federico - We were just messing about with the wonderful bari sax voice on our Aerophone and this funky bass line emerged. We looped it and took out our real live alto and jammed over the top of it and this was the result.
  21. Cannonball - Cannonball Adderly - Now we're back to the real alto sax and we play our favorite sax man's signature tune albeit about half the speed he did... That's ok, more time to savor the fun.
  22. Sign of the Times - Harry Styles - Ok, we admit we are a little obsessed with this song ever since we discovered it embedded in one our favorite sci-fi movies 'Project Hail Mary'. To us it carries that same vibe of longing that you find in songs like U2's 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For'. That's why we loved the movie and the song... apocalyptic but hopeful... not a common combination these days. The music video is stunning. Lyrics below.
  23. Blackbird - Paul McCartney - Paul wrote this song in 1968 to encourage Black women facing systemic racism during the American Civil Rights Movement. We picked the song because it is a nice, calming closing tune before we knew about the deeper meanings of the song which makes us love it all the more.
  24. Song for Hal - U2 - One of the best songs written by U2 in decades from the best EP they've ever released. This one plays in the background while we are packing up our gear.

Our romp through this set usually takes between sixty and ninety minutes.

Let the wild rumpus begin!

Lyrics

Little Light of Love
Eric Serra

From a Little Light Of Love
I was born and in my cry, my cry
Was a Little Light Of Love
For the honoring of life
And the pharons of my soul
Is this light of love
Precious Little Light Of Love

There's a candle burning on
In the breezy shades of night
I keep up my faith and underset my hope
To call the realm of light

A treasure
Your shiver
In the middle of the shady desert
Brings on a field of light
In a light of love
Fairy light of love

Only one religion
Will lead us to the love we aim for
Over the dark illusions
Of the warring nations

And when the figure leads to power
The destruction glorified higher
And when the war is nearly over
How come the leader's held in highest honors

Would you die
For their lie
The greedy hunting cry

You rely
On your light
Little loving light

A little light of sole religion
Well a Little Light Of Love
A little light of soaring freedom
Just a Little Light Of Love
A little light of sole religion
Take this Little Light Of Love
A Little Light Of Love and freedom
Take me
A little light of soul religion
A Little Light Of Love and freedom

Liathach
Jo Hamilton

If I only could let you be
If I only could let you breath
I would never show my face here
If only I could see clear
I will one day when it's all gone
I hope to catch the right way
Before it's all gone wrong

Wishful thinking
There's more than that
There's understanding
But mine's not here
But I can feel it near

You're my Liathach
You're my boundless
You're my Liathach
You're my boundless
Coming to the time of give and take
I'm so full, but what if I break?

Wishful thinking
More is needed
Mind is off again
Lasso it near or it will never hear
You're my Liathach
You're my boundless
You're my Liathach
You're my boundless
You're the world around me

Sir Duke
Stevie Wonder

Music is a world within itself
With a language we all understand
With an equal opportunity
For all to sing, dance and clap their hands

But just because a record has a groove
Don't make it in the groove
But you can tell right away at letter A
When the people start to move

They can feel it all over
But they can feel it all over people
They can feel it all over
They can feel it all over people, no, yeah

Music knows that it is and always will
Be one of the things that life just won't quit
But here are some of music's pioneers
That time will not allow us to forget now

For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo
And the king of all, Sir Duke
And with a voice like Ella's ringing out
There's no way the band could lose

You can feel it all over
You can feel it all over people
...
...

I can feel it all, all, all-all-all over now people
Can't you feel it all over?
Come on, let's feel it all over people
You can feel it all over
Everybody all over people, go

Kells Opening Theme
Iona

I stand on ground
I've walked before
To seek the way
And watch the moon rise into night
Illuminating with its light

My thoughts they turn in time and place
Illuminated Word of grace
Where I will find the way divine

A throne in sight that blazes like eternal dawn
The mystery of Father, Spirit and the Son
The Three in One

And precious stones of colours bright
Eagle and calf, lion and man
Do meet around the throne of light

In colours rich that last through time
In patterns of the Spirit's mind
Illuminated Word divine

I stand on ground I've walked before
To seek the way

Aislings's Song
The Secret of Kells

You must go where I cannot,
Pangur Bán, Pangur Bán
There is no substance to this life
This world is but a vapor,
And we will only be alive
For a short time.

Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
Liturgy of St. James

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
and with fear and trembling stand;
ponder nothing earthly minded,
for, with blessing in His hand,
Christ our God to earth descendeth,
our full homage to demand.

King of kings, yet born of Mary,
as of old on earth He stood,
Lord of lords, in human vesture,
in the body and the blood.
He will give to all the faithful
His own self for heav'nly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven
spreads its vanguard on the way,
as the Light of light descendeth
from the realms of endless day,
that the pow'rs of hell may vanish
as the darkness clears away.

At His feet the six-winged seraph,
cherubim with sleepless eye,
veil their faces to the Presence,
as with ceaseless voice they cry,
“Alleluia, alleluia,
alleluia, Lord Most High!”

Be Thou My Vision
Traditional Irish
attributed to St. Patrick

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me save that thou art.
Thou my best thought by day and by night;
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true Word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord.
Thou my great Father, I thy dear child;
Thou in me dwelling, with thee reconciled.

Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight;
Be thou my dignity, thou my delight.
Thou my soul's shelter, thou my high tow'r;
Raise thou me Heav'nward, O Pow'r of my pow'r.

Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise;
Thou mine inheritance, now and always.
Thou and thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven's joys, O bright Heav'ns Sun!
Heart of my heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Lord It Belongs Not to My Care
Richard Baxter

Lord, it belongs not to my care
Whether I die or live;
To love and serve Thee is my share,
And this Thy grace must give.

If life be long, I will be glad,
That I may long obey;
If short, yet why should I be sad;
To welcome endless day?

Christ leads me thru' no darker rooms
Than he went thru' before;
He who into God's kingdom comes
Must enter by his door.

Come, Lord, when grace hath made me meet
Thy blessed face to see,
For if thy work on Earth be sweet,
What will thy glory be?

My knowledge of that life is small;
The eye of faith is dim,
But 'tis enough that Christ knows all,
And I shall be with him.

Sign of the Times
Harry Styles

Just stop your crying
It's a sign of the times
Welcome to the final show
Hope you're wearing your best clothes
You can't bribe the door on your way to the sky
You look pretty good down here
But you ain't really good

If we never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets?
The bullets
We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
Your bullets?
The bullets

Just stop your crying
It's a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here
Just stop your crying
It'll be alright
They told me that the end is near
We gotta get away from here

Just stop your crying
Have the time of your life
Breaking through the atmosphere
And things are pretty good from here
Remember everything will be alright
We can meet again somewhere
Somewhere far away from here

We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets?
The bullets
We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets?
The bullets

Just stop your crying
It's a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here
Stop your crying
Baby, it'll be alright
They told me that the end is near
We gotta get away from here

We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
Your bullets?
The bullets
We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
Your bullets?
The bullets

We don't talk enough
We should open up
Before it's all too much
Will we ever learn?
We've been here before
It's just what we know

Stop your crying, baby
It's a sign of the times
We gotta get away
We got to get away
We got to get away
We got to get away
We got to get away
We got to, we got to, away
We got to, we got to, away
We got to, we got to, away

Blackbird
Paul McCartney

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird, fly
Blackbird, fly
Into the light of the dark black night

Blackbird, fly
Blackbird, fly
Into the light of the dark black night

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Song for Hal
U2

Did you hear "Forever"?
Was it playing soft and low?
It's not a song you wanna hear
If you're not ready to go

You're not alone in the bright blue air
Not alone if there's no one there at all
You're not alone if your voice is unheard
Not alone the song of the mockingbird don't last long
They appear and then they're gone
I swear where music is made
You'll be there

And as the morning light
Stretches out across the floor
Can't believe it's another day
And life goes on like it did before

You're not alone when you're on your knees
Not alone if no one sees you fall
You never took a curtain call
And you are not alone when you close your eyes
And slip into a dream that takes you to the other side

Of the songs in your head
Dizzy as a musical
Stupid songs you can't forget
Beyond pretty, beyond beautiful
Wherever the strange is on parade
Wherever the music is made
You'll be there

Did you know he is close to God
Who makes his old friends laugh?
Did you know Hal the magician?
I watched him disappear from a photograph
